Why I Prefer to Take a Mixture of Candids & Poses

Picture this, you're researching different photographers in your area and, you see a couple different options.

Some of the photographers have the traditional posed photos, parents standing beside eachother, kids standing beside or in front; or couples standing still, hugging, kissing. Other photographers have more candid "posed" photos. The couples are laughing together, kids in family photos look happy to be there and the parents are enjoying watching their kids.

Which option feels more like it's telling a story?

My opinion is that both play a part in telling your story but, candids have more movement, more emotion, more life in them; and I also think that poses have their place. Candids are also just more fun for me to capture. 😉

As a photographer who aims to capture and tell your story through image, I use both posing methods to really round out the experience.
